Legislations globally have been assessing the information available on the different sunscreen filters available and have begun to ban up to 10 organic/chemical sunscreen filters which are suggested to be impacting reefs negatively. Further, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has stated that the only UV filters that can be classified as “Generally Recognized as Safe and Effective” (GRASE) are the natural inorganic UV filters zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.
