ULTRAPURE GLACIAL CLAY

Glacial Clay Home--- History--- FAQ

Methodology of processing Glacial Clay

There is presently only five known Glacial Clay deposits in North America. Two belong to the native people, one belongs to a cosmetic company, and two belong to Glamarine Products Inc. The clay deposits are classed as mineral claims, and the regulations regarding recovery of product is covered by the Mining Act of Canada. All known Glacial Clay deposits have been found on, or close to, the North West Coast of British Columbia, Canada.

Recovery

Glamarine Products Inc. mine their clay at an elevation of 650 feet above sea level. The deposit presently being mined has been determined to have in excess of 25,000,000 kilograms of recoverable clay available. Covering this deposit is approximately twelve meters of overburden, this overburden material, mainly shrubs and soils, has accumulated over millions of years. To get access to the clay it is stripped clear, exposing a layer of pure glacial sediment about one and one half meters thick. This is known as Glacial Clay. It is simply the result of glacial sediment settling to the bottom of an ancient lake, or inlet, over millions of years. When the Ice Age came and the landmass rearranged, the water became displaced and disappeared, this gift of nature was compressed and purified and became Glacial Clay. Glamarine Products Inc. is fortunate to have two of these deposits available. The clay is dug by hand and packed into sterile plastic bags, then loaded onto barges for transportation down the North West Coast of Vancouver Island. Upon arriving at the processing plant, the bags are opened and purified water is added, to keep the product in basically the same condition, as when it was exposed for the first time in a million years.

Processing

Processing is a simple method of removing large objects by continually passing the product through smaller and smaller screens, until the finished product passes through a 200 stainless steel mesh screen. (0.0029 of an inch). In this lengthy operation there are no heat treatments or centrifuge used. All processing is done at normal temperatures. During this process, and because the product is so pure, there is only about 1% loss of original clay. The refuse loss is mainly cockle and oyster shells. At this point it is determined where the product will be shipped. If it is being shipped to one of the humid countries, such as Taiwan or China, then an antibacterial agent is mixed into the product. This is done only as a precautionary step, as we have no control over how the clay will be treated when it arrives at its destination. If the clay has been sold to one of the large cosmetic companies, then the purchasing company has the choice whether to include a Biocide or not, most of them do. If the clay is destined for the retail market via private label packaging, then the owner of the private label has the choice. Glamarine Products Inc. takes no responsibility for Biocides stipulated by the client.

Biocide

A Biocide, for purpose of explanation, is any type of product, which is mixed with another product to purify, or attempt to purify the host product. Some companies use chemicals, heat treatments, or a host of very good products available on the market. Glamarine Products Inc. recommend the use of Liquid Germall Plus. The F.D.A. and the EEC Countries accept this Biocide. INCI Name; Propylene Glycol (and) Diazolidinyl Urea (and) Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate. Used at a level of 0.4% by weight.

Packaging

The majority of product is packaged in 20 kilo heavy-duty pails. These pails will stand up to being shipped by truck, or container. The heavy-duty plastic lids and seals, that we use, guarantee no leaking. When the product is received by the customer, there may have to be a certain amount of remixing due to settlement. The water will have come to the top. Do not add water. Mix the water that has come to the top back in, if the clay is for direct use without any added ingredients. If the intent is to mix another liquid, such as Vitamin E or Aloe Vera, then pour the water off and save encase it is needed. If any other water is required make sure it is purified.
